The infant child of C. (Charles or Klaas) Smit died at the home of Walter Smit in this city, last friday. The funeral services were held from the First Reformed church at Orange City Monday after noon and the little one was buried in the cemetery west of that place.
(This was found to be the small baby son of Charles Smit and Maria Den Hartog, she died in Jan of 1897. In the obit of Charles age 64 years from the April 23, 1936 issue in the Alton Democrat it states that two children were born to Charles and Maria, an infant son died an a daughter Laure Mrs. Sawyer of Ft. Worth TX survived. Charles then married Lena Ruevers in 1904 and they had six children listed in the obit.
