John R. Wallenburg, 87, of Rock Valley, died Monday, November 17, 2003, at Valley Manor, Rock Valley. Memorial Service was Wednesday at Calvin Christian Reformed, Rock Valley, Burial prior to Memorial service a Valley View Cemetery.
John R. Wallenburg was born on April 15, 1916, at Sioux Center, Iowa, to Ring and Winnie Harskamp Wallenburg. He spent his childhood years on farms in Sioux and Lyon County. On December 12, 1939 he was united in marriage to Tillie Dragstra at her parent’s home. They started their married life farming near Lebanon and later moved to Orange City. In 1953, they made Rock Valley their home. They lived on a farm near the Rock River and in 1960, they moved into town and John took up farm implement sales. John loved the outdoors and he loved people. He never met a stranger. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping, and metal detecting. John was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the Consistory and enjoyed the Mr. & Mrs. Club. John took a lot of pride in his family — being near his daughters and their families was the highlight of his life. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grand-children.
Those left to cherish his memory his daughters: Mary and Joe Bechier, Sioux City, Joyce and Jim Burggraaf, Hull, Darlene Wallenburg, Sanborn, Evelyn Breuer, Hull, Jean and Ruben Fick — Rock Rapids, and Lori and Roger Van Maanen - Inwood. Grandchildren include: Gwen & Rick Ebbers, Sue & Arnold Carison, Cindi & Lance Iwen, Mark & Lisa Breuer, Chad Breuer and his special friend, Sandi De Kam, Eric Breuer, Ryan Fick and his fiancé, Amber Van Wyk, Kristin &
Megan Fick, Kelly & Robin Van Maiinen. and Heather & Shawn Van Wyhe.
Great-Grandchildren include: Austin & Paige Ebbers, Jonas Carison, Halley, Madisen, & Carter Iwen, Lacinda, Alex & Austin Breuer. Brothers: Gilbert (Mabel), Bill, Hank (Verna) and Rich (Minnie) Wallenburg; Sisters: Christine Kersbergen, Alicia (Hans) Burgers, Gert (Malt) Huisman, Wilma (Al) Van Beek.
In heaven he joins his wife Tillie, a stillborn daughter, son-in-law Ervin Breuer, granddaughters Dawn & Karen Burggraaf, grandson Timothy Breuer and great-grandson Allen Breuer, brothers Tony & Ring and infant sister Winnie.
