Mrs. Ben De Jong, Sr., passed away at her home in Rock Valley on Monday morning, March 12, 1945 at the age of 87 years, one month and 27 days.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon, March 8, at one o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at the First Christian Reformed Church at Rock Valley with Rev. Kuyper officiating. Burial will take place at the Orange City cemetery and acting as pall bearers will be Rev. Ben De Jong, Kenneth De Jong, Robert De Jong, Frank De Jong, Gerrit Ten Harmsel and Rev. Brunsting.

Mrs. De Jong was born in the Netherlands on Jan. 8, 1857 and came to this country about 60 yars ago settling first in Grand Rapids, MI, where they lived for about a year and from that time on they have been residents of this community. She is survived by eight children, Mrs. William Ruisch of Rock Valley, Mrs. A. Vander Bok of Rock Valley, Mrs. John Ruisch of Sioux Center, Mrs. L. A. Brunsting of Sioux Center, Herbert De Jong of Sioux Center, Miss Jennie De Jong of Canton, SD, Rev. Ben De Jong of Ashton, and Rev. Frank De Jong of Artesia, CA. Also 27 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and two brothers, John De Vries and Otto De Vries both of Rock Valley and one sister, Mrs. Bert Van't Hull also of Rock Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away in the year of 1927 and three children, Robert in 1903, Mrs. Dick Niekerk in 1920 and Rev. Otto in 1922. Three of her sons and one son-in-law entered the ministry, and there are at the present time five grandsons in the service, one of them Lt. Albert Brunsting missing in action since Jan. 3, 1943, announced as presumably dead by the War Dept. a year later.
