Arie Reekers, 78, life-long resident of the Sheldon vicinity passed away at 10:30 October 24, 1964, at the Community Hospital, after a two month illness, following a stroke.
Funeral services wee held October 28, 1964, at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Kenneth Leestma officiating with interment in East Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Reekers, Normal Reekers, Art Struyk, Kryn Vogel, Elmer Van Kerkeis and Marvin Kleinwolterink.
Mr. Reekers was born December 12, 1885, at Corsica, Iowa to Art & Marina Reekers. He attended the rural schools and lived on a farm in the Sheldon vicinity.
On February 29, 1912, he was married to Maggie Van Kekerix at Sanborn. The couple lived at Archer for seven years, at Hospers for 24 years and near Sheldon for 21 years. He was a member of the First Reformed Church.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie; six daughters and two sons, Herbert Reekers of Sheldon; Lynn of Storm Lake; Mrs. Gerald Weekly of Sioux City; Mrs. William Nieuwenhuis of Hospers; Mrs. Lavonne Mory of Whittier, Calif.; Mrs. Harold Caprio of Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Willis Rains of Wichita, Kansas; also 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by five sisters and three brothers: Joseph of Sheldon, Jack of Matlock and Arthur of California. Mrs. Wm. Struyk, Long Beach, CA; Mrs. John Kleinwolterink; Mrs. Gertrude Douma; Mrs. Mary Van Roekel of Sheldon, and Mrs. Otto Pekelder of San Diego, CA.
One daughter preceded him in death.
