Hannah Heemstra, 95, of Yankton, S.D. and formerly of Orange City, died Sunday, Feb. 11
at Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton.
Services were held Wednesday in Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Don DeGlopper
and the Rev. Harold Hiemstra, pastor of Riverview Park Reformed Church of Yankton, officiating.
Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery, Orange City, with the Kostel Funeral Home of Yankton in charge
of arrangements.
Mrs. Heemstra was born May 28, 1894 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Eppink) Barge. She married Jacob Heemstra July 23, 1919 in Cleveland. They lived a good share
of their life in Orange City where Dr. Heemstra served as the first president of Northwestern College.
Mrs. Heemstra served for 20 years as president of Northwestern College Women's Auxiliary and also served on the National Board of Missions for the Reformed Church of America. Mr. Heemstra preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sons, John of Yankton, Howard of Ames, Frank of Oxen Hill, Md., and Raymond of Bartlesville, Okla.; six grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one sister, Ella Terbeeck; and a brother, Gilbert Barge.
Memorial donations may be given to the Hannah Heemstra Scholarship Fund at Northwestern College.
