Margaret A. Linnan
MAURICE – Margaret Ann Linnan, 101, of Maurice, died early Monday Aug. 12, 2002, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars following a brief illness. Miss Linnan was born April 5, 1901, on the family
farm a mile west of Maurice, the daughter of John G. and Kate (Fitzpatrick) Linnan who were early pioneers and landowners in Sioux County. Margaret attended Iowa State Teachers College and Colorado University.
She taught at Hillsboro, and Webster City in Iowa before going to Denver, Colo., where she taught while she worked on an advance degree at Denver University.
She then went
to Pullman, Wash., where she was on the faculty of Washington State University for over 30 years. Since her retirement, she had lived in the family home in Maurice. She was an active and staunch member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Maurice all of her life. She was also a member of the rosary Society with her church. A special interest and project was maintenance and decoration of St.
Mary's Cemetery.
Margaret was a rare and priceless asset to her family and community. Margaret, who never married, is survived by a sister Eleanor (Linnan) Fox of Palm Springs, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews to whom she was a loving and supportive aunt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Tom, Luke, and Joseph "Clem"; and two sisters;
Mary Doherty and Joanne Linnan.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Maurice.
Friends may call anytime after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. A rosary
by the rosary society will be held at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at
the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dave Schlesser, Arnold Rolfes, Martin Schreiner, Mike VanderMolen, Jim VanderMolen, and Mark Kessenich. The community is invited to participate in celebrating Margaret's life.
