Joe Dykstra, son of Sam Dykstra and Sieberge (Van Dellen) Dykstra, was born January 10, 1902 in Rottevalle, Friesland, Netherlands. He lived his youth in Rottevalle. He attended grade school in Rottevalle and high school in Drachten, Friesland, Netherlands. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, Sheldon, Iowa.
He came to the United States in 1920 and farmed at Sheldon, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Agnes De Vries on February 18, 1931 in Sheldon, Iowa. They lived on a farm near Sheldon their entire married life.
He passed away June 21, 1990 at Sheldon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 4 months, and 11 days.
He is survived by one son, Sid Dykstra of Cumming, Iowa 2 daughters, Nellie, Mrs. Ted Bootsma of Sanborn, Iowa and Shirley, Mrs. Gene Fokken of Ft. Collins, Colorado; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchi1dren; one sister Tena, Mrs. John Heitmeyer.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one infant granddaughter.
