From the Alton Democrat of June 13, 1896
Rudolph Stuffle (Stoffel) died last Monday morning at his home near Chatsworth in this county. He leaves a wife and a large family (actually three) of children. The funeral occurred in Alton Tuesday, at the Catholic church and was largely attended. We are told that Mr. Stuffle's (Stoffel's) death was caused by poison. It seems he took a chew of tobacco containing a poison of some sort and noticed a burning sensation in his mouth and throat at once. It grew so troublesome that a physician was called. In a few days he was unable to swallow food and death soon came to relieve his sufferings. We are without further particulars. Mr. Stuffle (Stoffel) formerly lived in this locality and was well thought of.
His wife was Elizabeth Andre b. 1847 died June 1907 in LeMars while living with her son Frank Stoffel, she had one other daughter Mrs. Annie Derkes of Akron.
