Source: Oolman Funeral HomeMr. John Boote, age 83, of Hull, passsed away on Saturday, January 22, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, January 26, at 1:30 PM at the the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Verlyn Boone will officiate. Internment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull, under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. Visitation will be after 5 PM Tuesday, with the family present from 6-8 PM, at the church.
John Henry was born on June 26, 1921 at Hull, the son of John W. and Lydia (Beyer) Boote. He was raised at Hull, where he attended rural schools and graduated from Hull High School in 1939. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Reserve Corps and attended Central College in Pella for a year. He then served on active duty in North Carolina and was discharges in 1944.
On June 9, 1944, he married Hermina Van Aartsen at Rock Rapids. Except for a year at Steen, Minnesota, they farmed in the Hull area. In 1981, they moved to their present farm on the north edge of Hull. John enjoyed farming and experimenting with new crops. He was also a seed salesman for many years. Mr. Boote was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he participated in the Men's Brotherhood and the Sunday School. He also sang in the church's choirs. He and his wife traveled throughout the United States, including the Hawaiian Islands, and also to Europe.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, nine children; Kenneth Boote, and his wife, Linda, of Edgewood, Washington; David Boote, and his wife Linda, of Lahaina, Hawaii; Janice, and her husband, Calvin Klarenbeek, of Hull; Glen Boote, and his fiancee, Annette, of College Station, Texas; Arvin Boote, and his wife, Lauri, of Hull; Wanda Boote, and her husband, Ross Johnson, of St. Petersburg, Florida; Lorna Heemstra, of Waukee; and Marlys Boote, and her friend, Margie Newman, of Iowa City; 22 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, eight step-greatgrandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Herman and Grace Boote, of Hull; Clarance and Carol Boote, of Orange City; and Edmund and Harriet Boote, of Sioux Center; two sisters, Christina Rens, of Sioux Center; and Elsie Koele, of Hull; and a sister-in-law, Mary Boote, of Hull.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Boote; and two brothers-in-law, William Rens and John Koele.
