Obituary: Rock Valley, IA - Robert Rudd, 89, formerly of Huron, SD, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Whispering Heights, Rock Valley. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m., Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Valley with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Father Doug Klein will officiate. Burial at Altoona Cemetery, Hitchcock, SD. The family prefers memorials to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Valley, Whispering Heights, Rock Valley or a memorial of your choice. Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley is assisting the family.
Robert Anthony Rudd was born January 15, 1922 to Stuart and Marie (McGeary) Rudd at Faulkton, SD. He was the oldest of six children. He grew up on a farm northwest of Miller, SD. He attended Greenleaf Township Rural Schools and graduating from Polo High School, Polo, SD. Robert married Herdis Irene Anderson Tevis, a widow with three little girls, on August 9, 1955 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Huron, SD. He worked at Amour & Company in Huron for 40 years retiring in 1983. A longtime resident of Huron, he and his wife moved to Rock Valley, IA in April, 2007 to be closer to family. For his parishes in Huron, he was an active member serving as an usher and communion minister for Shut-ins. Robert was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Valley. He was a Third-Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus for 68 years in Huron and in recent years in Rock Valley. Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife and family including the United States, Denmark and Sweden. His grandchildren have many wonderful memories of traveling with their grandparents in their small Airstream. He became a resident of Whispering Heights in September 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Herdis, Four Season North, 1305 22nd Avenue, Rock Valley, IA 51247, a son, John and his wife Debbie, Estherville, IA; 2 daughters: Dagmar Tevis Rudd and her husband Don, Silver City, NM and Della Tevis Ranschau and her husband Billie, Rock Valley, IA; a son-in-Law, Guy Croucher, Aberdeen, SD; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Norvin Rudd and his wife Mary Ellen, Huron, SD and Don Rudd and his wife Dagmar; a sister, Adelaine Busby, Amarillo, TX; a brother-in-law, Gene Porter, St. Lawrence, SD; 2 sister-in-laws: Joanie Rudd, Green Bay, WI and Bernice Anderson, Hitchcock, SD; many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul Rudd, a daughter, Teresa Tevis Croucher; a brother, Edward Rudd; a sister, Mary Ellen Rudd Porter; a brother-in-law, Carol Busby.
