Mrs. Tony De Haas,94 of Orange City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.Hendrika J. was born January 17, 1889, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, the daughter of Herman Toering and Engeltje Vander Laan Toering. Her family came to the United States in 1891, settling at Rock Valley. On June 8, 1908, She married Tony (Titus) De Haas at Worthington,MN. They lived at Orange City,Alton,Rock Rapids and for nine years in Arkansas, returning to Orange City in 1934.
They became residents of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City in January of 1975 and in April of 1982 moved to the Heritage House. Mrs. De Haas was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church of Orange City.
Mr. and Mrs. De Haas are the parents of six children: Herman, who passed away in 1974; Mrs. Christian (Griselda) Jacobs of Prairie City; Frank of Orange City; Edward of Rock Valley; Evelyn, who passed away in 1931 at the age of eight; and Newman of Silver Springs,MD.
In addition to her husband and four children, Mrs. De Haas is survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great Grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday Feb. 8, at the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. Ray Tilstra officiated, folllowed by interment at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
