Lynette Ethel Stephens, the daughter of Oliver and Phyllis (Nygaard) Edson, was born June 5, 1947 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She attended Prospect Hill country school and graduated from Alcester High School in Alcester, South Dakota in 1965. She attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion for 2 years. She then became a Dental Assistant for 2 years. Lynette was united in marriage to Edmond Stephens on September 7, 1968 in the Big Springs Baptist Church in Big Springs, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Lake Andes, SD for 3 years before moving to Sheldon, Iowa in 1972. In Sheldon, Lynette babysat in her home and gave piano lessons for the first 3 years. She then worked for Dr. Allen Jones, the Village NW Unlimited in physical therapy and life skills and for NWE. Lynette passed away at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD on Saturday, February 12, 2011, reaching the age of 63 years, 8 months and 7 days.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon. She loved to read the Bible and spending time with her children. She also enjoyed cooking and try out new recipes, gardening, playing the piano, giving lessons and helping other people.
Lynette is survived by her husband, Ed of 42 years; and their children, Lara Anne Stephens of Rock Valley, IA; Trent Anthony Stephens of Fort Worth, TX; Troy Anthony Stephens of Vermillion, SD and a granddaughter/daughter, Sara Lee Stephens at home. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Freda Stephens of Vermillion, SD; a twin sister, Lynda E. and her husband, Paul Sorenson of Vienna, VA; a half-sister, Judy and her husband, Eugene Hansen of Cedar Rapids, IA and a brother, Dennis and his wife, Denise Edson of Naples, FL; and other relatives and friends.
Lynette was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Phyllis Edson; and her birthmother, Vi Himrich.
