Mr. Tony De Haas,age 99, of Orange City, passed away Tuesday, Feb, 15 at the Heritage House Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb 17 at 10a.m. at the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City, The Rev. Donald R. Lenderink of the Trinity Reformed Church of Orange City will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City
Tony (Titus) De Haas was born Sept. 26, 1883 at Friesland, The Netherlands,the son of Frank De Haas and Gelske(Griselda)Toering. He came to this country at the age of 19.
On June 8, 1908, he married Hendrika J. Toering at Worthington, Minn. They lived at Orange City, Alton,Rock Rapids and for nine years in Arkansas, returning to Orange City in 1934.
In the early years, Mr. De Haas was a farmer. Later he was a printer for the Sioux County Capital and the Adf-Visor. He retired in the 1950's
Mr. and Mrs. DeHaas became residents of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City in January of 1975 and in April of 1982 moved to the Heritage House Nursing Home of Orange City.
Mrs. De Haas passed away Feb. 6, 1983.
He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church.
Mr. and Mrs. De Haas were the parents of six children: Herman who passed away in 1974; Mrs.Christian (Griselda) Jacob of Prairie City; Frank of Orange City; Edward of Rock Valley; Evelyn, who passed away in 1931 at the age of 8; and Newman of Silver Springs, MD.
In addition to his four children Tony is survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; brother, Nick of Linwood, Mass.,and sister, Mrs. Tena Jellema of Prospect Park,NJ.
