Abraham "Bud" De Groot,75,Sheldon, died Friday, April 12, at Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.Services were Monday, April 15, at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Brian Keepers officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Bud De Groot, son of Abraham and Jeannie(Koel) De Groot was born Dec. 7, 1926, in Sioux Center. He received his education in country schools in Sioux County. He served in the Army during WorldWar II, being stationed in Japan. He married Edna Wynja on Jan. 11, 1949, in Sioux Center. They farmed in the Sheldon area until 1963, when they moved into Sheldon. He was employed in Sheldon for many years as an automobile saleman until his retirment in 1994. Mrs. De Groot died April 1, 2002, in Sheldon. He moved into Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon in December 2001.
He was a member of Bethal Reformed Church in Sheldon where he had served as a Sunday school teacher and as a Sunday School superintendent. He was a member of the Sheldon American Legion , Lions club and Prairie Queens Kiwanis. He was active in the Children's Miracle Network and a volunteer drive for Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon. He had served on the board of Children's World in Sheldon. He enjoyed gardening, golfing and working in his garage..
Survivors include a daughter, LaVonne and Marv Bosch of Des Moines; two sons, Kenneth and Kathy De Groot of Sheldon and Roger and Terri De Groot of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five sisters, Ann and Rich Kroon of Orange City, Marie and Bill De Weerd of Inwood, Lena Fedders of Sioux Center, Gertrude Vis of Rock Valley and Edna Vande Broek of Maurice; and two brothers, Cornelius and Eleanor De Groot of Orange City and John and Nelvina De Groot of Orange City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna De Groot; a brother Henry De Groot; and a sister Jacoba De Weerd.
