Keith P. Mitchell, 78, of Sioux Center, formerly of Hawarden, died Thursday, June 22, at the Sioux Center Hospital.
Memorial service was June 26 at American Lutheran Church in Hawarden with the Rev. A. Pete Petersen officiating. The commital service and military service were at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden.
Mitchell was born March 28, 1928, at Ireton, the son of Delbert and Helen (Grau) Mitchell. He graduated from Ireton High School in 1948. He served with the U. S. Navy from July 1945 to August 1946. he married Charlotte Van Buskirk June 19, 1949, at Craig. They made their home in Sioux City before moving to Hawarden in 1970. He was employed by the Northwestern Bell Company. His wife died July 6, 1988. He married Lois Draayer Dirkson August 26, 1989, at Orange City. The couple lived in Hawaredn before moving to Sioux Center in April of this year.
He was a member of American Lutheran Church of Hawarden and the American Legion of Hawarden.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter Deborah Mahler of Queen Creek AZ; son, Dave Mitchell of Omaha, NE; stepchildren, Maribeth Moberg of Buckley Wa, Randy Draayer of Hull, and Gretchen Van't Hof of Sioux Center; sister Neva Marienau of Hawarden; six grandchildren; nine step-grandchilren; seven great grand children; and eight step great grand children.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson; two brothers, Walter and Cleotis; and a sister, Lois Cooper.
