Josephine I. Meins De Raad 83, of Chatsworth, IA, died unexpectedly on Monday, April 13, 1998, at her residence.
Funeral service were held on Friday morning, April 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, the Reverend Allen Bidne officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery at Akron, under the direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Josephine was born on May 29, 1914, at rural Akron, the daughter of Gerhart and Mary (Knecht) Johnson. She attedned country school in the Akron area, and was confirmed in the Lutheran Chruch in Akron. Jospehine married Fred G. Meins, Jr. on March 3, 1933, in Elk Point SD. He died June 22, 1962. She married Arthur DeRaad in 1968 at Chatsworth. He died in April of 1986.
Josephine was the city treasurer for Chatsworth for many years. she also enjoyed volunteering in the Hawarden Hospital and the thrift store in Hawarden, as well as quiltmaking and flowers. she was a member of trinity Lutheran Church of Akron, church circle and was active in the Chatsworth Senior Citizens.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, William and Verla Meins of Dakota City NE and
Robert L. and Jane Meins of Homer NE; two daughters and their husbands, Mildred and Harold Bonnema of Artesia CA, and Shirley and Tim Repp of Sioux City IA; one step daughter and her husband Eleanor and Bud Erickson of Snohomish WA; one step daughter in law, Mrs. Lonnie DeRaad of Hudson Sd; 15 grand and 37 great grandchildren; severn step-grandchildren; three sisters, Ella and husband George Beeler of siuox Falls, SD, Alma and her husband Swede Morrison, and Irene Nielsen, all of Janesville WI; one brother Harvey Johnson of Janesville and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one brother, Emil Johnson; one siter Martha Powell; and one stepson, Lonnie De Raad.
