From the Hawarden Independent of April 15, 1926
Mrs. R. E. Miller passed away Early Sunday morning.
All her married life was spent in Hawarden - survived by husband and one daughter.
Mrs. Roy E. Miller passed away at her home in this city at 1:25 Sunday morning. Her death was not unexpected as she had been unconscious for several days prior to the end and for more than a week virtually no hope had be held out for her recovery. She had not been in good health for the past four years and since last November had been seriously ill. A number of weeks ago she submitted to a surgical operation for gall bladder trouble and for a time seemed to improve somewhat but this improvement was of short duration and towards the last she failed very rapidly. She suffered intensely but maintained great courage and fortitiude. All that medical and surgical skill could accomplish was done for her but to no avail and death finally brought her long suffering to a merciful end.
Funeral services were held at the home at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon comducted by Rev. Edwin Booth, pastor of the Associated chruches. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.
Grace R. Bristol was born at Batvia IL Apr 1, 1882, so had but recently passed her 44 th birthday. She grew to young womanhood in Illinois but came here twenty years ago to be with her sister, Mrs. L. T. Bodine. Eighteen years ago she was united in marriage with Roy E. Miller at Huron SD., at which place Mr. and Mrs. Bodine were then living. They immediately went to housekeeping in Hawarden and their home has ever since been in this city. Besides her sorrowing husband, she is survived by one daughter Bernice both of whom will .........of a devoted wife and mother. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. L. T. Bodine of Hawarden, Mr. R. Sweigert of Batavia IL and Mrs. Chas Feltham of Madison WI. Mrs. Feltham visited her just a few eeks ago and Mrs. Sweigert was here during the final week of her illness, while Mrs. Bodine has been at her bedside almost constantly during the past winter.
Mrs. Miller devoted her life to her home and family. No task was too arduous or sacrifice too great, if it might add to the happiness or comfort of her loved ones. As a neighbor she was highly esteemed and enjoyed the admiration of a wide circle of friends who are bowed down in grief at her untimely death and extend the hand of sincerest sympathy to the members of her family in their great sorrow.
