Ann De Groot, 87, Sioux Center, formerly of Sheldon, died Thursday, July 4.

Services were Monday, July 8, at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev John Witvliet officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Ann De Groot, daughter of August and Maria (Palsrock)Breevaart, was born April 18, 1915 in Zuidland, the Netherland. She immigrated to America with her familky at the age of 6. They lived near Boyden and Melvin. As a young woman, she lived in Sheldon, where she worked as a nanny for Dr. J.J. Brady, an optometrist. While in Sheldon she meet Cornelius "Casey" De Groot who was working for Brouwer Bakery at the time. They settled in Sioux Center in 1946, aftert purchasing the bakery. It soon became Casey's Bakery, a business in which each played an active role. She worked in the bakery for many years, handling many respononsibilities in her polite, caring manner. During the first 17 years in Sioux Center, she also cared fro her father-in-law in their home. Mr. De Groot died Nov 12, 1999

Her life centered around three thing; Her church, her family and the bakery. She cherished her family and was especially fond of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a devoted member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, she was faithful to Golden Hours Circle. She was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Sioux Center.

Survivors include five daughter, Mary and Del Swets of Orange City, Velma and Arnold Franken of Sioux Center, Judy and Roy Vander Meulen of Sioux Falls, Carol and Dennis De Jong of Sheldon, and Gladys Johnson of Sioux Falls,SD.; a son Ron and Kathy De Groot of Sioux Center; 21 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; and a special niece, Shirley Rappaport of Las Vegas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, Steve Franken; a brother, John Breevaart; a sister, Jennie Breevaart; and special nephew, Jack Breevaart.
