Lois Carsten,84,of Hawarden died Wednesday at the Hawarden Community Hospital.

Services were held Saturday, June 15, at the Associated Churcvh of Hawarden, the Rev. Fredrich Mellberg officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Vistation was held at Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mrs. Carsten was born April 27, 1907, in Hawarden the daughter of James and Emma (Metcalf)Younie. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1925. She married Leo (L.R.) Carsten July 24, 1927, in Boone. The couple lived in Hawarden where they owned and operated Carsten's Market for many years. She then was a bookkeeper for Carsten Truck Line of Hawarden. Mr. Carsten died May 26, 1974.

Mrs. Carsten was an active member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of PEO, several card clubs and the Associated Church.

Survivors include a son, D. Kay Carsten of Sioux Falls; a daughter, Mrs. Garry D. (Janet)Gerdes of Omaha; and six grandchildren, James Carsten, Jan Toolson, Jeff Cartsten, David Gerdes, Dr. Greg Gerdes and Dan Gerdes. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Florence Younie and four brothers, Russell, Paul, James and Elmer Younie
