Margaret was the daughter of Lambert and Annie (Van Muyden) Van Wyhe. She was raised in the Akron-Hawarden area.
On February 24, 1939, she married Dick Van De Griend at Ireton. They made their home on a farm near Middleburg. Dick passed away December 13, 1990, in Orange City.
In 1995, Margaret moved to Sioux Center, where she became a resident of the Franken Manor. In October of 2001, she transferred to the Sioux Center Community Hospital Nursing Wing.
She was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in a ladies circle. She also attended a neighborhood Bible study at Middleburg. Margaret enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Nelton "Bud" Doornink of Sioux Center; and Joyce and Tom De Koster of LeMars; seven grandchildren, Tammy and her husband, Douglas Adams, of Kansas City, Missouri; Gail Doornink of Parker, Colorado; Michael Doornink of Auburn, Alabama; Justin Doornink of Ames; Dawn De Koster of Seattle, Washington; David De Koster of Chandler, Arizona; and Heidi De Koster of Seattle, Washington: two sister, Esther Vande Hoef of Luverne, Minnesota; and Alice Moerman of Sioux Center; Three brothers and their wives, Wayne and Jen Van Wyhe of Lester; Duane and Helen Van Wyhe of Rock Valley and Marlin and Darlene Van Wyhe of Hawarden; a sister-in-law, Kathy Van Wyhe of Ireton; a brother-in law, John Doppenberg of Orange City and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Herbert Lee Van De Griend; a granddaughter, Debra Doornink; two sisters, Gertrude Webert and Dorothy Van De Griend; a brother, Gordon Van Wyhe; a sister-in-law, Nell Doppenberg; and four brothers-in-law, Ordean Webert, Pete Van De Griend, William Moerman, and Dick Vande Hoef.
