Dick was born and raised at Middleburg, the son of Herbert Van De Griend and Jennie (Zwagerman) Van De Griend. He lived his entire life on the same farm there.
On February 24, 1939, he married Margaret Van Wyhe at lreton.
He was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church of Orange City.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carolyn and her husband, Nelton "Bud" Doornink, of Sioux Center, and their children, Tammy, Gail, Michael, and Justin; and Joyce and her husband, Tom De Koster of LeMars, and their children, Dawn, David, and Heidi; and sister, Mrs. John (Nell) Doppenberg of Orange City.
He was preceded in death by his son, Herbert, and granddaughter, Debra Doornink.
