Mr. Duane Boyer, age 62, of Alton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2007, at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa, after a battle with A. L. S. (Lou Gerig's disease).

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 29, at 11:00am, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Daumer will officiate. Interment will follow at the Nassau Township Cemetery, near Alton. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Duane Arthur was born on April 23, 1945, in Hudson, South Dakota, the son of Ledru Boyd and Ella Jane (Hout) Boyer. He was raised at Hudson, where he graduated from high school.

On August 14, 1966, he married Sandra Marie Honeywell in Pipestone, Minnesota. They made their home in Rock Valley, Iowa; Hudson; Inwood, Iowa; and Canton, South Dakota. About 1970, they moved to Orange City, Iowa, and in 2005, they moved to Alton.

Duane was employed by Roorda Manufacturing in Rock Valley; area farmers in South Dakota and Iowa; Coil Craft in Canton and Orange City; Hi-Precision, which became Smith and Wesson Ammunition, in Orange City; K Products in Orange City; and TenDaire Industries in Beresford, South Dakota.

He was a master tool and die maker, having a unique inquisitive nature about all types of machinery. He liked working with his ands, and also owned Boyer Salvage in Alton, which he operated part-time.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, often traveling up the Red River on walleye expeditions with friends. Family and friends will remember him foldly.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy; four daughters, Tammy (Doug) Hagan, of Alton; Teresa Boyer, of Shoreview, Minnesota; Tina (Jack) Cronin, of Orange City; and Tonia (Kris) Hinderks, of Hospers, Iowa; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; five brothers and three sisters, Eldon (Donna) Boyer, of Tucson, Arizona; Gary (Wanda) Boyer, of Fridley, Minnesota; Lee (Carolyn) Boyer, of Canton; Kenneth Boyer, Peggy (Jim) Thiele, and Pamela (Richard) Rees, all of Schuyler, Nebraska; Daniel (Lori) Boyer, of Canton; and Penny (John) Golden, of Harrisburg, South Dakota; three sisters-in-law, Linda, Pat, and Marcella Boyer; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Herbert, Gaile, and Bruce Boyer.
