Lena Boscaljon, 79, of Sioux Center formerly of Doon died Jan. 23, 2007 at Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Memorial services will be held on Jan. 26th, 2007 at 11:00 am at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center, IA, with Rev. R. Van Rathbun and Rev. Marilyn Rensink officiating. Internment will be prior in the Hillside Cemetery of Doon, IA.
The Boscaljon family prefers memorials be directed to the Foster Grandparent Program or Hope Haven’s Wheel Chair Ministry.
Lena (Riphagen) Boscaljon was born Oct. 20, 1927 to Joe and Johanna (TerHaar) Riphagen in rural Sioux Center. She attended Plato #7 country school through the eighth grade.
She married Donald Boscaljon on March 2, 1954 at Carmel Reformed Church. They farmed north of Doon, Iowa where she was a homemaker until Donald’s death in 1962, due to a farm accident. Lena then moved into Doon and worked as the head of food services for Hope Haven for 25 years. She settled in Sioux Center in 1992 and cleaned for various businesses. She later became a foster grandparent at the Sioux Center Middle School.
Lena had been a member of the Doon First Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school, directed Jr. Choir, was a member of Circle, and played organ. She was currently a member of Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center where she was involved in a prayer group, Circle, and Central Choir. She also sang in Senior Saints, Siouxland Women’s Choir, and served on the advisory board of Foster Grandparents.
She was known for her delicious pies, her love of music, reading, and her deep devotion to her family and God.
Lena is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and LaRue Van Muyden, Sue and Ron Doppenberg, and Melanie Boscaljon all of Sioux Center; five grandchildren: Dana (Doppenberg) Kauffman and her husband, Matt of Spirit Lake; Diane Doppenberg of Orlando, FL; Tom Van Muyden of Sioux Falls, SD; Alicia Boscaljon and Patrick Van Muyden both of Sioux Center and one great granddaughter, Mackenzie Kauffman. Also surviving are a sister and brother-in-law, Johanna (Riphagen) and John Voortman of Sioux Center; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill and Lavonne Riphagen of Sioux Center and Gary and Bertha Riphagen of Doon; a brother-in-law, Chuck (Kay) Mulder of Ireton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Willard and Arlene Boscaljon of Sanborn and sister-in-law, Jean Boscaljon of West Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; grandson, Daniel Van Muyden; sister, Joyce Mulder and twin infant sisters
