Obituary: Anchorage, AK – Earl Wayne Draayer, 52, formerly of Rock Valley, IA, died from complications after a short courageous battle with cancer on December 30, 2008 at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 16, 2009 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Rev Gideon Wamala and Rev John Engbers will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rock Valley Christian School.
Earl Wayne Draayer was born July 1, 1956 to John and Gertrude (Dibbet) Draayer in Sioux Center, IA. He was a 1974 graduate from Western Christian High School in Hull, IA. Earl entered the U.S. Navy in October, 1975 and served on the USS Enterprise until October of 1979. I the summer of 1983, he went to Alaska with his brother Lyle. They both worked at V.F. Grace Inc. Shortly afterwards, Earl began working on the North Slope. For the last 15 year he worked on the North Slope as a warehouseman for NANA Management Services. Earl loved working on his garden in the summer, snowmaching during the winter months and enjoyed all that Alaska offers. He enjoyed listening to his vast music collection but most especially he cherished spending time with his wide circle of friends and his brother Lyle’s family.
Earl is survived by his parents, John and Gertrude Draayer of Rock Valley; brothers: Darwin (Joyce) Draayer of Remsen, IA, Conrad "Dean" Draayer of Boulder, CO and Lyle (Emily) Draayer of Anchorage, AK; one niece, Amber Elizabeth Draayer of Anchorage, AK; seven step-nieces and nephews: Jacki Trujillo, Jamie Spangler, John, Joseph, Jesse, Jeremy and Julie Galles.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Jake and Sophie Dibbet and Gerrit and Jane Draayer.
