John De Boom
John De Boom , 81, of Orange City died Wednesday afternoon at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Thomas C. Vanden Heuvel officiated. Burial was in Memory Garden Cemetery,
Sioux Center, under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.
Mr. De Boom was born Sept. 28, 1903 at Archer, the son of Cornelius and Jennie (Boer) De Boom. On Aug. 27, 1930 he was married to Gertrude Vreeman at Sioux Center. They farmed in the Sioux Center area prior to moving to Orange City in 1970. She preceded him in death July 21, 1977.
He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife Gertrude; four sons, Clifford of Lynden, Wash., Richard of Hawarden, Robert of Lake Jackson, Tex., and Gerrit of Janesville, Minn.; three daughters, Mrs. Ivan (Christene) Van Houten of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Herlan (Betty) Schut of Orange City, and Mrs. Leroy (Esther) Altena of Maurice; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Merwyn Scholten of Charleston, West Va., and Marlowe Scholten of Gurnee, Ill.; and four step-grandchildren; four brothers, Arie of Sioux Center, Cornelius of Harris, Henry of Minneapolis, Minn., and Simon of LeMars; one sister, Mrs., John (Lucy) Luinstra of Bellflower, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, two grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters.
