Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:00 at the house and 1:30 at the First Reformed Church for Jacob Westra who passed away at his home Thursday morning following a six month illness. He was 76 years, 8 months and 9 days old.
Jacob Westra, son of Peter and Theodore Westra, was born Feb. 19, 1878 in Dokkum, Netherlands. He came as a boy of three years to the United States and arrived in Alton, IA. He remained in Sioux County all his life except for eight years in Lyon County. He retired from the farm and moved into town in 1941. He married Bertha Van Mandenberg, Dec. 11, 1901, at Rock Valley, IA.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Bertha, three children: Marie, Mrs. John Houtsma, Peter J., and Henry J. of Boyden; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; also three brothers, Simon of Sheldon, John of Sioux Falls, and Barney of Orange City; one sister, Rena, Mrs. John Kuyper of Albert Lea, Minn.; and a host of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Henri Steunenburg and Mrs. Ray Smith sang "Never Alone" and "This World is not My Home".
Pallbears were Bos Dekker, Jake De Zeeuw, Sr.; Jake Vande Heide, George Brinks, Frank Schafer and W. Boelsma.
Burial was made in Boyden Cemetery with the Coop Burial Association of Sioux Center in Charge.
