Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Wilbur Hartman, 73, of rural Hawarden in Union County, South Dakota, died Thursday, November 11, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Hawarden with Pastor Stuart Schreur officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion and VFW of Hawarden. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. and visitation with the family following until 8:30 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Wilbur Hartman was born January 25, 1937 in rural Union County, South Dakota, the son of George and Lula (Rohlfs) Hartman. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1955. Wilbur served in the Air National Guard from September 1959 until his honorable discharge in August of 1962.
Wilbur married Yvonne Davis February 14, 1961. Together they farmed in South Dakota in the Akron and Hawarden area. He attended the First Baptist Church in Hawarden for many years, more recently he attended the Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ to be near his grandchildren. Wilbur was a member of the Hawarden American Legion and the Buick Club of America. He loved to collect classic cars and belt buckles. He especially loved spending time on the farm with his kids and grandkids. In 1995, Wilbur attended Auctioneer school.
Survivors include his wife Yvonne; 3 daughters and their husbands, Barbette and Duane Grimm of Westfield, Kathy and Brad McInnis of Hawarden, and Jenny and Carlos Mendoza of Westfield; 2 sons and their wives, Chad and Pam Hartman of Hawarden and Luke and Mindy Hartman of Akron; 11 grandchildren, Josh and fiancé Jena, Mandy, and Mariah Grimm, Kirk and Amy McInnis, Kent Muth and Olivia Mendoza, Kayla and husband John Davenport, Max Hartman, and Aaron and Aubie Hartman.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents.
