Obituary: Hawarden, Iowa- Robert Henry "Bob" Trageser, 87, of Hawarden, went to his home in Heaven, following a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 10, 2010.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. followed by visitation with the family all at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Porter Funeral Home in Ireton is assisting the family.
Robert Henry "Bob" Trageser was born on December 23, 1922, in Hawarden’s first hospital, the son of Henry and Frieda (Hildebrandt) Trageser. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden. Bob attended Washington Township country school and graduated from Hawarden High School in 1941.
He married Ruth Pauline Brown on December 12, 1945, at the H.M. Brown home in McNally, Iowa. He farmed southeast of Hawarden, as well as, working at the Hawarden Sale Barn. In 2001, he became a recipient of the Iowa Department of Agriculture’s Century Farm certificate (a reward for his hard labor). Bob also spent time serving as trustee for Washington Township. Throughout his life, he enjoyed family, friends, watching sports, cheering on his children and grandchildren, playing cards, walking, and volunteering with "Meals on Wheels" and Calliope Village.
Bob was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he held a variety of church offices including elder and secretary of AAL.
After his retirement in May of 1999, he was regularly seen warming the bleachers at hometown sporting events. In April of 2001, he received the West Sioux Falcon Award for his outstanding contributions to the programs at West Sioux Schools. Bob was an avid fan and supporter of basketball, football, baseball, and wrestling. More recently, he attended volleyball and soccer games.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Barb Ewoldt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Deb and Ron Van Egdom of Inwood, Iowa; two sons, Don and Ratchani Trageser, Paul and Pam Trageser, both of Hawarden; eleven grandchildren, six great- grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Deloris Brown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; numerous nieces
and nephews; special family friend, Alice Lee of Richland Hills, Texas; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, infant Donald and William; in-laws H.M. and Ruth Brown, Dr. Jim and Neva Brown, Charles (Bus) and Hope Brown, Bob Brown, and Bud and Donna Brown; granddaughter, Pamela (East) Halverson; two infant grandsons; and one infant granddaughter, Angela Marie Van Egdom.
