Funeral services for Mrs.Chad Godfrey,75,of Le Mars, former Hawarden resident and aunt of Mrs. Lawrence Dagle, Mrs. Elmer Younie and Jay Ashmore, were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Maurer Funeral home at Le Mars. Rev. James Ransom officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery at Hawarden.

Mrs. Godfrey died in her home at Le Mars last Thursday after an illness of several years.

Eunice Sherman Ashmore, youngest child of Ulysses R. and Frances Newton Ashmore, was born November 4, 1884, in Union county, South Dakota. At the age of 9 she came to Hawarden to make her home with her sister, the late Mrs. Walter Scott. She graduated from Hawarden high school in 1903, after which she attended Northern State Teachers college at Aberdeen, SD. She spent 20 years in the teaching profession, first teaching in rural schools in Union county, later in Huron and Yankton, SD., and Hawarden and Charles City, Iowa and in Springfield, Ill.

On June 18, 1923 she married Chad Godfrey in Omaha and since then resided in Le Mars. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include the widower; a step daughter, Mrs. Dwight Seward of Clinton, Iowa; a sister Mrs. Edith Hilton of Granite Falls, Minn.; a brother, Ulysses R. Ashmore of Granite Falls, and several nieces and nephews.
