Funeral services for Lawrence "Slack" Meeter,55, rural mail carrier of Hawarden, who died Sunday following a heart attack, were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday at the First Methodist church. Rev. C.E. Custer officiating. A short service for the family at the home was held prior to the funeral services

Mr Meeter and his family were enroute home from a Minnesota vacation and had stopped at a filling station in Sioux Falls for gasoline when he became ill. A doctor was called and Mrs. Meeter drove Mr. Meeter to the Sioux Valley hospital where a cardiograph was taken. He experienced a short period of recovery and Mrs. Meeter and the children were preparing to continue on home when he suddenly became very ill from a coronary occlusion. Although attended immediately by staff members of the hospital, attempts to save his life were futile. The body was taken to the Barnard Funeral home here.

Mr. Meeter was born in Hawarden on November 14, 1905. He attended the public school here. He Married Eleanor "Pat" Lilley of Hawarden at South Sioux City on February 18, 1942, and the couple resided in Hawarden all their married life.

A daughter, Janie died during the polio epidemic here in the fall of 1948. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert in 1908 and Earl in 1920.

Mr. Meeter started as a city mail carrier June 1, 1930 and transferred to a rural mail route November 2, 1936. He was a carrier on route 3 at the time of his death. He was employed at Truesdell Motor. He was a member of the Methodist church and the Rural Letter Carriers association.

Survivors include the widow, three children, all at home. Lawrence James 17, Todd Thomas 11, and Annie Christine 8; a brother, Gordon Meeter of Waterloo and three sisters, Mrs. Florence Lewis of Waterloo, Mrs. Effie Templeton of Boone, Iowa and Mrs. Aurilla Tate of Seattle, Wash.
