Funeral Services for Mrs. Alta Brown: 82. former Hawarden resdent who died Friday at Charleston, W. Va, where she made her home with a daughter, Miss Wilma Brown, were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral home.Dr G. S.. Bruland of the Methodist church officiated with Eastern Star honors conferred at the burial in Grace Hill cemetery. James Squier was the soloist with Mrs. Hal Shoemaker at the organ. Casket bearers were Glenn Hansen, Elmer Ericson, George Moore, Oscar Norberg, J. E. Tilgner, and Don Leafstedt.Mrs. Brown, mother of Mrs. Lloyd M. Johnson of Hawarden, was born Alta Bennett, August 14, 1880, at Reno City, Kan. As a young girl she moved with her parents to Peterson; Iowa. She was married to Samuel W. Brown of Peterson in 1906. He died in 1940 at Hawarden, having resided here a number of years. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include six daughters; Mrs. Robert Green of La Canada, Calif., Mrs. Winston Baker of Tracy, Calif., Mrs. Jean Fitzpatrick of Amarillo, Texas, Mrs. Johnson, of Hawarden, Mrs. D. D. Tucker of Des Moines and Miss Wilma of Charleston: a son. Robert, of South Charleston: 13 grandchilden, and five great grandchildren.
