LESTER CAIN, 59, DIES AT HOSPITAL
Lester Cain, 59, longtime farmer in this area, died unexpectedly at the Hawarden hospital about 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon [Aug. 15]. He became ill Tuesday night and entered the hospital about 6 o'clock Wednesday morning, hemorrhaging from stomach ulcers. He had been in poor health for some time, but had not been considered seriously ill.
Funeral services were pending as the Independent went to press Wednesday evening.
Mr. Cain was born in Clarkson, Ky., and came to the Hawarden community as a young man. He married Hilda Treiber in April, 1928, and the couple farmed near Hawarden all of their married lives. They resided about three miles southwest of Hawarden in Union county, South Dakota, the past several years.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister besides his parents.
Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Hillricks of Akron, and Ardis, a beauty operator at Wally's Beauty Salon in Hawarden; two sons, Erlyn of Hawarden and Kenneth, at home; a sister, Mrs. Bess Hawkins of Kentucky; six brothers, Moman of Kentucky, and Charles, Leonard, Fountain, and twins Wilbert and Gilbert, all of Hawarden, and four grandchildren.

CAIN SERVICES HELD SATURDAY
Funeral services for Lester Cain, 58, who died Wednesday afternoon of last week at the Hawarden hospital, were held at 2 o'clock Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran church. Rev. O. F. Pittack officiated with burial in Grace Hill cemetery under direction of the Barnard Funeral home.
Casket bearers were Earl Newman, Hayes Wasser, Lewis Carsten, Clarence Larson, Ed Osterkamp and John Van Ballegooyen. Mrs. Raymond Peters, organist, accompanied the church choir in the singing of two hymns.
Mr. Cain was born February 13, 1904, at Clarkson, Ky. He came to Hawarden with his parents and brothers in 1920. He married Hilda Treiber April 21, 1928. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church.
