Mrs. Edith Kemis Dies in California.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Caroline Kemis,86,former Hawarden resident who died March 22, at the Columbia Convalescent home in Long Beach, Caalif., were held om March 28, at the First Congregational church, Rev Gerald Halliauer officiating. Interment was in North Lawn cemetery at Spencer, Iowa.

Edith Caroline Witt was born at Hawarden May 4, 1881, a daughter of Herman and Etta Witt. She married Walter A. Kemis who preceded her in death on August 13, 1939. Two children, Ralph and Francis also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kemis had lived in Spencer where she was active in the Rebekah lodge, Women's Relief Corps, VFW Auxiliary and the Degree of Honor, and the First Congregational church. About six years ago she moved to Long Beach to be with her daughter Helen Kemis. Survivors besided the daughter are a son, Tom of Sioux City and three grandchildren.
