Sioux Center, Iowa - Kimberly A. Malcom, 45, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at her residence in Sioux Center following a three year battle with breast cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Father Dan Greving will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery in Hudson, South Dakota. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-8 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Thursday. The Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars is assisting Kim's family with arrangements.
Kim was born in Le Mars, Iowa on November 22, 1964 to Allen Dean and Anna Mae (Hamstra) Malcom. She graduated from Le Mars Community High School with the class of 83. At the age of 35, she attended Northwest Iowa Community College. Kim graduated with honors and earned an Associate's Degree in Human Resources in 2001. Kim then pursued a career as a tax preparer.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble, Iowa. Kim also belonged to, and participated in several events with, the Northwest Iowa American Legion Riders and Independent Riders for Children and Charities. Kim was very active in the fight against cancer. She was very dedicated to The American Cancer Society which included Reach for Recovery, a committee member with the Relay for Life, Advocacy and Training Video with the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with The Northwest Iowa American Legion Riders and doing many charitable runs with them.
Family was very important to Kim and she put them before anything else. She loved spending time with her family, whether it was watching her children grow and start their lives, or take her cherished grandchildren to many of their activities. She loved the outdoors, especially during summer. Kim also took pleasure in family BBQs and trips to the pool.
Kim is survived by her children, Sara Koopman of Le Mars, IA, Adam Koopman of Le Mars, IA, Jaime Koopman of Le Mars, IA, and April Koopman of Sioux Center, IA; Fiance' Dave Van Beek Sioux Center, IA; grandchildren Dylan, Kole, Peytyn, Mc Kaya and Tayven; parents Anna Mae Hamstra-Weicht and her husband Dave of Oacoma, SD; a sister, Penny Tabbert and her husband Brian of Hudson, SD; two brothers, Bill Malcom and his wife Leslie of Altoona, IA, and Troy Malcom of Sioux City, IA; maternal grandmother Berdenna Faber of Le Mars, IA; a niece Lacey Malcom; and nephews Eric and Tyler Tabbert.
Kim is preceded in death by her grandparents, William Hamstra and Dean and Mary Malcom; her father, Allen Malcom; a nephew, Michael Tabbert; and an infant Grandson, Eli.
