Gertrude Evenhuis Pereboom
Gertrude Pereboom, 89, died Feb. 8, 2000 a Hillside Nursing Center of Wake Forest.A memorial service was held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Raleigh, NC. A second memorial service will take place in Hawarden in late May. Mrs. Pereboorm's ashes, will then be placed next to the remains of her first husband, Melvin Evenhuis who lies at rest in Sioux Center.Gertrude Rons was born March 30, 1910 in Doon, Iowa. She was educated in Sioux Center and subsequently became a country school teacher. On Sept. 23, 1936, she married Melvin Evenhuis. The couple lived in Chicago, Ill. until the end of World War II. In 1946 they moved to Hawarden where Mrs. Pereboom helped her husband run an electrical contracting business for many years. Mr. Evenhuis died in 1971. Four years later she married Pete Pereboom. Mr. Pereboom died in 1983. At the age of 84, Mrs. Pereboom left her home of almost 50 years to be near her daughter, Audrey Witcher in Raleigh, NC.She is survived by her daughter, Audrey Witcher; three granddaughters, Amy Davis and Jocelyn Wells of Raleigh, N.C., and Heidi Gailor-Loflin of Greensboro, NC.; and two great-granddaughters
