Funeral services for George Elwell,69,employee of the Tilgner Food Center and longtime resident of this community who died of a heart attack Monday, were held at 2 0'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral home with Rev.William Sebring officiating. Masonic rites were held at the funeral home followed by burial in Grace Hill cemetery.

Mr. Elwell who felt exceptionally well Monday morning, did a number of errands around town before returning to work at 11:30. He took some things out to the trash burner, walking through deep snow and when he walked back into the rear of the store he complained of feeling dizzy. J.E.Tilgner went to his assistance and caught him as he was about to fall. An attending physician pronounced him dead from a heart attack. Mr. Elwell had suffered two severe heart attacks seven years ago and was incapitated for about six month. After his recovery he was able to return to work and had very little difficulty since then.

Mr. and Mrs Elwell were observing their 45th wedding anniversary on March 5, the day of his death.

Mr. Elwell was born March 1, 1893, at Whiting Iowa. He married Neata Sundling at Bereford, SD., March 5, 1917. They came to Hawarden in 1932. He worked in the Scriven grocery store, later operating a cafe here. More recently he again was employed in the Scriven market which was sold and became the Tilgner Food Center. Mr. Elwell was a member of Dale Masonic lodge No. 456 A.F. & A.M. of Hawarden.

Survivors include the widow; a sister, Mrs. Marie Berry of Maryville, Calif., and a brother, Glenn, of Socia, Calif.
