FUNERAL OF JOHN VRIEZE ON FRIDAY

Alton residents were shocked Wednesday [Dec. 15] to learn of the sudden passing of John Vrieze, for 55 years a resident of the community, who expired with a heart attack early that morning in the home of his sister, Mrs. Peter Jiskoot.

For the past six weeks he had been employed on a farm at Lime Springs, Iowa, but relatives here received news Sunday that he was ill and wanted to come home. Two nephews, Jack Lucas and "Heinie" Vrieze, drove to Lime Springs and brought their uncle home Tuesday night to the home of his sister. He stood the trip well and apparently rested well until morning when he passed on during his sleep, or so quietly that his sister did not know of his sudden passing until she went to his room in the morning.

Two brothers and his father passed on in the same manner with heart trouble.

He was born near Alton on the Vrieze farm on January 19, nearly 56 years ago, the oldest of a family of 7 children, of whom the surviving members are Will Vrieze, Mrs. Peter Jiskoot, Gerrit Vrieze and Mrs. Herbert Lucas. Joe and John preceded their brother in death. He did farm work for many years, but owned a small home in Alton and for several years has been sexton of Nassau township cemetery. He was a friendly and kindly man, a great favorite with nieces and nephews, and will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be held this Friday at 1:00 o'clock at the Peter Jiskoot home and at 1:30 at the First Reformed church here, in charge of Rev. E. Van Engelenhoven.
