William Popken Dies At Age 51

Funeral services for William Popken, 51, former Hawarden area resident, who died at the Hawarden hospital Thursday after a three month illness, were held at 9:30 Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Akron, Rev. Fr.John Schissel officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Schroeder Funeral home.

Mr. Popken was born at Le Mars on July 22, 1914. He married Regina Thomas at Akron on January 30, 1946. They farmed near Hawarden until movking to the Westfield area several years ago.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Thomas and Robert; two daughters Barbara and Betty, all at home; three sisters, Mrs. Alvin Sommervold and Mrs. Ronald Rohlfs of Akron and Mrs. Gordon Swenson of Sioux City. He was a second cousin of Dennis Popken of Hawarden.
