WILLIAM AHLERS

William P. Ahlers, 88, of Granville died Tuesday in a hospital in Orange City after a long illness.

Services were 1:30 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville. The Rev. Francis Nemmers officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Ahlers was born Feb. 28, 1896, at Granville and was a lifelong area resident. He was raised in Granville and educated in St. Joseph School. He married Mary Schwarz May 16, 1922, at Granville. They farmed in the Granville area until 1960 when they retired. In January 1961 they moved into Granville.

Mr. Ahlers was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a past commander of the American Legion post at Granville and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Emmett of Granville; four daughters, Miss Florence at home, Mrs. Ambrose (Lucille) Schumacher of Granville, Mrs. Dent (Ruth) Green of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Mrs. Ray (Clarice) Heller of Milford; two brothers, Lawrence of Remsen and Ray of Alton; two sisters, Mrs. William (Ida) Vortherms and Mrs. Cyril (Isabelle) Thier, both of Adrian, Minn.; 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
