DEATH OF EARLY RESIDENT
Mecca Brunskill Passed Away April 2nd at Spearfish, S.D.

Mecca Brunskill, early day resident of this community, died on Tuesday, April 2nd, at his home in Spearfish, S.D., according to word received here last week by Hawarden relatives. The funeral was held there Saturday and interment was made at that place.

Mr. Brunskill was about 75 years of age. He was born in Wisconsin but came to Plymouth county, near Le Mars, with his parents and other members of the family in 1875, where he grew to young manhood. His father, Simon Brunskill, purchased a farm northeast of Hawarden in 1883 and this place became the family home. He was united in marriage with Hettie Davis while a resident of this community. In the 90's he moved to South Dakota and homesteaded near Kimball where he remained for a number of years. Subsequently he relinquished his homestead there to the government and homesteaded again at Redig, S.D., some 25 years or more ago, where he had lived until recently when he moved to Spearfish. He is survived by his wife and one son, Elmer Brunskill. One daughter died in infancy. He was one of a large family of children but only one brother, Sam Brunskill of Hawarden, survives him. Mr. Brunskill's last visit to Hawarden was about 17 years ago.
