Alice Van Roekel, 78, of Sioux Center died Monday, April 12, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services were at 10:30 A.M., Thursday at First Reformed Church, Sioux Center, with the Rev. Mark De Witt officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Van Roekel was born February 5, 1921, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Art E. and Hermina (Rozeboom) Franken. She attended country school. She married Henry Van Roekel, December 5, 1945, at her parents home. The couple farmed until 1968 when they moved to Sioux Center.

She was a member of First Reformed Church where she was an active member of the Ruth Circle and also babysat for the MOPS ministry. She enjoyed greeting people at Wal-Mart for many years. Her joy in life was spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband; three sons and their wives, Con and Pat of Sioux Center; Loren and Sharon of Fountain Valley, California, and Mark and Lisa of Sioux Center; two daughters and their husbands, Ila and Dave Harskamp and Claryce and Mark Schuiteman, all of Sioux Center; 14 grandchildren, Sherri and Daron Van Beek, Scott Van Roekel, Shantelle and Greg Bleeker, Tim and Tom Harskamp, Corey, Craig and Chad Schuiteman, Alex Van Roekel, Brody, Nicholas and Joshua Van Roekel; two great-granddaughters, Brooke and Lauren Bleeker; two brothers and their wives, (her twin) Everett and Gertrude and John and Darlene, all of Sioux Center; and two sisters and their husbands, Louise and Gerrit Robert Hulstein and Arlene and Joel Bensema, all of Sioux Center.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Evert; and one sister, Johanna.
