RITES FOR RESIDENT TO BE HELD TODAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Johnson, 88, longtime Hawarden resident who died Tuesday [May 3] at the Akron hospital, will be held at 10 o'clock this morning (Thursday) at St. Mary's Catholic church here. Rev. Fr. William Carel will officiate with burial in St. Mary's cemetery under the direction of the Barnard-Dow Funeral home.

The rosary was recited at 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Casket bearers are to be Bill Doohen, George Hirschman, Bob Hendricks, Vinton Kane, George Sawyer and John Dalton.

Minnie Burke was born June 9, 1877, at Hudson, S.D., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Burke, who came from Ireland to Canada, then settled at Clinton, Iowa, before moving to Hudson. She married Elmer Johnson on February 18, 1903 in Hawarden and lived here until about a year and a half ago when she was taken to the geriatrics ward of the Akron hospital.

Mr. Johnson died on March 1, 1915. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Frances, and several brothers and sisters. She was a member of St. Mary's Guild and its circles.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. James (Bernice) Klauer of Akron and Mrs. John (Lucille) Burr of Long Beach, Calif.; a son, Robert Johnson, of Hawarden; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
