HARRY RUMMEL ANSWERS CALL
DIED WEDNESDAY IN HOSPITAL AT TUCSON, ARIZ.
Was 36 Years Old and a World War Veteran.--Survived by Widow and Three Children

Harry W. Rummel, a lifelong resident of this city, died at 10:30 Wednesday morning at the Veterans Hospital in Tucson, Ariz., where he had been a patient much of the time during the past four years receiving treatment for tuberculosis. He first entered the hospital there in February 1929, but had spent a part of each summer here. For several weeks past his condition had been regarded as critical and the end was not unexpected. His family spent a part of the time at Tucson during the past four years, but after his visit here last summer his children remained here with relatives, but Mrs. Rummel has been at Tucson for several months and her mother, Mrs. J. L. McManaman, has also been there the past few weeks.

Harry Wayne Rummel was the youngest child and only son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Rummel. He was born in Hawarden Nov. 9, 1896, and his home was in this city during all of the 36 years of his life. He attended the Hawarden schools, graduating with the class of 1915. During his high school career he took an active part in athletics and was one of the mainstays of the track team in his high school days. During the World War he originally enlisted in the navy but was rejected upon physical examination at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station and returned home but was later accepted for service in the army. He served in army camps in Georgia and South Carolina as a member of Battery B, 12th Field Artillery, receiving his discharge at Camp Jackson, S.C., Feb. 18, 1919. Following his discharge from the army he was appointed to a clerkship in the Hawarden postoffice, which position he filled for a period of nearly ten years, until he was forced through ill health to enter the government hospital at Tucson.

On Oct. 7, 1920, he was united in marriage with Miss Kathleen McManaman in Sioux City. Three children were born to them, all of whom survive. The children are Harry, aged 11, Ramon Lynn, aged 9, and Donna Teresa, aged 3. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Rummel of Hawarden; four half-sisters, Mrs. George Belkey of Alcester, and Mrs. W. H. Miller, Mrs. Fred Vernon and Mrs. G. F. Burket of Hawarden; and two sisters, Mrs. Seal Van Sickle and Mrs. H. E. Anderson, of Hawarden.

Harry Rummel was always universally popular in Hawarden and hundreds of friends here have watched his long battle against disease with the hope that by some miracle he might be restored to health but this hope has now been shattered and his friends can but extend sincerest sympathy to the members of his family.

The remains will be brought to Hawarden for interment but funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.
