From the Alton Democrat of Mar 31, 1894
Died: At his home in this city of spinal meningitis, Willie Slob aged 12. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Slob is shrouded in gloom, for death hath invaded it and taken away a loving son. A week of suffering, a week of unconsciousness and then on early Easter Morn, the soul of Willie Slob left is earthly tenemant for the home above. Kind dutiful, studious, lovable and loving, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him. In one short week, the hopes, ambitions and plans of a young and most promising life have been thwarted by the fell destroyer. The funeral services took place at the American Reformed church and were conducted by Revs. Kolyn of this place and Muilenburg of Boyden. Many and loverly were the floral designs. Rev. Kolyn preached a most impressive and pathetic sermon. A great number of friends then followed the remains to the cemetery, where was laid to rest all that is mortal of little Willie.
(William F. Slob was born 8 Jan 1882 to Frederick Slob and Jacoba Vande Steeg and died 25 Mar 1894 and is buried in Orange City. He had at least one brother Gerrit as noted in the 1885 Iowa State census record.)
