Marie Buckley, 78, of Rock Valley died Saturday. January 4, at Green Acres Care Center in South Sioux City.
Services will be Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rock Va!ley, with the Rev. Dale George officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Visitation will be today. Tuesday. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Mrs. Buckley was born on May 15. 1918, in Volin, South Dakota. the daughter of George and Mary (Dwyer) Dixon. She was graduated from high school and worked at Glidden’s Market in Volin. She married William Buckley on October 10, 1945, in Wakonda, South Dakota. The couple lived near Le Mars before moving to Rock Valley. She was the librarian at Rock Valley Community Library from August 1966 until her retirement in 1985. The couple moved to South Sioux City in November 1995.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was active in the Guild, Catholic Daughters of America and taught catechism.
Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Gene (Yosef) and Miriam of Kfar Saba, Israel; a daughter and her husband, Pat and Randy Merchant of South Sioux City; a grandson, R.J. Merchant; and a sister and her husband, Margaret and Robert Christensen of Yankton, South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Luverne.
