Mrs H. A. Bryan Died at Clear Lake and Brought Here for Burial

Mrs. Hanna A. Bryan, one of the early residents of Calliope and Hawarden, passed.away last Thursday morning at the home of her son, Frank A. Bryan, at Clear Lake, Iowa. Her death came suddenly from heart trouble, although she had been in ill health for the past two years. Accompanied by her son, the remains were brought to Hawarden Friday afternoon and brief services were conducted at Grace Hill cemetery by Rev. Wm. F. Vance, pastor of the Associated Churches, after which interment was made in a grave beside that of her. husband who passed away five years ago. Her granddaughter, Mrs. Nellie Stevens of Sioux City, and her husband were also here to attend the funeral.

Hannah A. Cobb was born in Indianapolis, Ind., Jan. 16, 1847, but came to Jackson county, Iowa, in her girlhood. She was united in marriage with James A..Bryan in Jackson county in 1864. Two sons were born to them, one dying in infancy. They came to Calliope in July, 1882, where Mr. Bryan engaged in the mercantile business, later moving his store to Hawarden and continuing in business here until 1893 when they moved to Sioux City where they made their home for a number of years. After leaving Sioux City they lived at Northwood, Iowa, for a time but later went to Clear Lake in order to be with their son. Mr. Bryan died at Clear Lake Sept. 21, 1918.

Mrs. Bryan had many friends among the older residents of this city who knew her as a gentle, kindly lady, devoted to her family and ever thoughtful and considerate of those near and dear. Her death will be mourned by many outside the family circle. Besides her. son, Frank A. Bryan of Clear Lake, and granddaughter, Mrs. Nellie Stevens of Sioux City, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Josephine S. Willey of Clear Lake.
