Andrew "Andy" Geels, 84, of Sheldon died Tuesday, September 14, at Prairie View Manor in Sanborn.

Services were at 10:30 A.M., Friday, September 27, at First Christian Reformed Church of Sheldon with Pastor John Vermeer officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery, Sheldon.

Geels was born May 26, 1912, at Orange City, the son of William and Dirkje (de Walle) Geels. He grew up at Orange City, graduating from Orange City Christian School and Northwestern College and from Nettleton College at Sioux Falls. He married Priscilla Ver Meer at Boyden on April 2, 1936. He worked for Montgomery Ward and Co. at Sheldon for six years, after which the couple farmed southwest of Sheldon for some time. They had four children. His wife died October 15, 1948. He married Burdette (Bonnie) Oostenink at Sheldon on February 2, 1950. He rejoined the Montgomery Ward organization for the next 25 years. After retiring he worked for some years for Kats Appliance at Sheldon. The couple spent 22 winters in their Phoenix, Arizona, home.

He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church at Sheldon, where he served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and as Bible Society leader for many years. He was a co-founder of the Calvinist Cadet Club in Sheldon and served six years as chairman of the Sheldon Christian School Board.

Survivors are his wife, Bonnie; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Edwin and Helena Geels of Sioux Center; Don and Carol Geels of Oregon, and Robert and Ada Geels of Sheldon; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Dick Oostenink of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
