Funeral services for Karl Frederick Gayer, 78, pioneer Rock Valley resident, were held at his home Monday afternoon, with Rev. Hugo Beyer of the Peace Lutheran church officiating. The burial was held at the church cemetery. The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Karl F. Gayer, was born the son of John and Johannah Gayer on September 4, 1869 in Illengen, Wurttenburg, Germany. He died at the age of 78 at his home in Rock Valley on Thursday, September 11.

Mr. Gayer was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed in April of 1883, at the age of 14. Three year later in 1886 he came to the United States with his parents, who settled on a farm near Rock Valley. Here he lived until 1932, when he retired to move into the town of Rock Valley.

He was united in marriage on June 15, 1898 to Bertha Pabbeldt of Williams, Iowa. To this union was born six children, all of whom are living except a son, who died in infancy. He wife preceded him in death, having passed away on January 4, 1919.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Walter Moore (Minnie) of Rock Valley; and Mrs. R. O. Winterfeld (Bertha) of Garretson, S.D.; three sons, William and Charles of Rock Valley and Arthur of Inwood; one sister, Mrs. Fred Klein and a brothers, Fred Gayer, both of Rock Valley; grandchildren, Arleen, Walter, Jr., Donald Moore and Leland and Delores Gayer, Lornell and Sharon Gayer.

Pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Gayer; Lon Miller, Lloyd Gayer, Fritz Gayer, Robert Gayer and Lloyd Klein.
