JOHN VIS
John Vis was born on June 13, 1958, to Henry and Johanna (Niezink) Vis at the Sioux Center Community Hospital in Sioux Center, Iowa. He was raised near Orange City, Iowa until age 6 when he then moved with the family to a farm near Beaver Creek, Minnesota. John received his education at Hills Christian Elementary in Hills, Minnesota, and graduated from Hull Western Christian School in Hull, Iowa, in 1976. Following his education, he continued farming with his family. On November 24, 1978, John was united in marriage to Beverly Groeneweg. The couple lived and farmed near Beaver Creek until 1983. To this union was born their three sons, Eric, Justin and Jason. In 1983, the family moved to Denver, Colorado, where John became employed in the financing business. John later moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he most recently owned and was CEO of American Collegiate Financial Services. In 1991, John met his loving companion, Brooke Bayless. On Monday, April 26, 2010, John passed away with Brooke by his side at the Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg He went to be with his Lord and family at the age of 51 years, 10 months and 13 days
John was baptized in July of 1958 at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church in Hull, Iowa. He enjoyed gardening, working with wood projects, going camping and cooking. In early years John was very active in showing registered Holstein cattle. He enjoyed riding horseback along the Rock River in his "spendy" boots. John loved to be generous to others and gave of his heart to those in need.
John is remembered by his loving companion of 19 years, Brooke Bayless; four children, Eric and his wife Rebecca Vis of Lincoln, Nebraska, Justin and his wife Kara Vis of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jason Vis of Sioux Falls, and Brandon Bayless of St. Petersburg; two grandsons, Austin Vis and Jesse Vis; five siblings, Marge and her husband Wilmar Pap of Luverne, Minnesota, Glenda and her husband Harold Mellema of Reading, Minnesota, Evie Pap of Luverne, Frieda and her husband Rod Fransman of Luverne, and Steve and his wife Kayla Vis of Beaver Creek, Minnesota; and nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Johanna Vis; niece, Janna Nibbelink; great-niece, Josie Dilly; and great-nephew, Jeremy Nibbelink.
