Final rites for Lane Visser, 56, 1:30 on Friday

Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church here at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 26, for Lane Visser, 56, a longtime partner in the operation of the Visser Elevator Co. here, who died suddenly and unexpectedly at Delray Beach, Fla., Monday afternoon [Jan. 22] of an apparent heart attack.

He had been vacationing in Florida with Mrs. Visser for a few days and was reported to have been sunning on the beach at the time he was stricken.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Peter Y. De Jong, and burial will be in Sioux Center Memory Gardens under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home.

Stores close for funeral

Chamber of Commerce officials announced yesterday that Sioux Center business places would be closed from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. during the funeral, in tribute to the deceased businessman.

Mr. Visser was born in Sioux Center October 23, 1916, and resided in this community all his life. He had for many years operated the Visser Elevator here in partnership with his brother, John. After John's death a number of years ago, he had taken two of his sons into the business.

Lane was married to the former Angeline Slobe June 28, 1939, in Sioux Center, and to this union five children were born, all of whom survive.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Russell (Donna) De Jong of Pella; four sons, Roger, Larry, Dennis and Scott, all of Sioux Center, the latter two still at home; a sister, Mrs. Wally Schoep of Sheldon; a brother, Peter, of Algona; and eight grandchildren.

The remains will lie in state at the Vander Ploeg Funeral chapel Wednesday evening, and members of the family will be there from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Leonard Visser, 56, Sioux Center, died Jan. 22 of heart attack while vacationing in Delray Beach, Fla. The funeral was at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 26 in the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. The Rev. P. Y. DeJong officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.

He was a lifelong resident of Sioux Center and operated Visser Brothers Elevator there. He was born Oct. 23, 1916, at Sioux Center and married Angeline Slobe June 2, 1939, at Sioux Center.

Survivors include sons, Roger and Larry of Sioux Center, Dennis and Scott at home; daughter, Mrs. Russell (Donna) DeJong of Pella; eight grandchildren; brother, Peter of Algona; sister, Mrs. Wally (Kathryn) Schapp of Sheldon.
